Welcome to Weymouth Sailing Club
|
The Jubilee Cup is one of Weymouth Sailing Club's all-in races where
dinghies, squibs and yachts all start together. All boats race around
the same short course and average lap racing is applied to determine the
winner. With boats of different sizes and speeds the start line can be
quite interesting ! This year a pleasant F3-4 breeze welcomed the
sailors and a small trapezoidal course was set.

YOBs meet the Olympic sailors |
|
The beginning of our involvement with the Olympics allowed WSC YOBs to meet and chat to World Champion sailors from New Zealand and France after their training sessions in Weymouth Bay. YOBs were delighted to discover that Star sailors Hamish, Craig, Xavier and Pierre-Alexis all started sailing in dinghies, beginning with Optimists, with their parents or at a sailing club, and progressing from class to class as they grew up. Hard to imagine any of them in an Optimist these days, and equally hard also to imagine this scene in the Club yard a few years ago! The fun will really start when all the New Zealand team are around at once, from next week...
