2008_spring_series_race_4Draig O'r Mor and Wild Child in the fourth Race.

This Sunday morning series is gaining in popularity each year and forms part of an expanding programme of sailing that now continues throughout the whole year.

The final race in the series was held on Sunday 27th April.  Mist had descended and the wind was light from SSE.  RO Barry Payne set a windward/leeward course for IRC and PY classes.

In the IRC class Mark Bugler on Saskia VI took line honours, Wild Child second and Spindrift third.  The series was convincingly won by Wild Child, Scoline second and Spindrift third.

In the PY class Alan Smith on Folio beat Rumrunner, however the Series was narrowly won by Rumrunner, Folio second and Chuckles Too third.

Many thanks to the Race Officers, Race Teams and Viking Drivers who helped run a very successful start to the calendar.

REAR ADMIRAL'S CUP - Mark Bugler reports from Saskia

We were so lucky with the weather yet again for Sunday morning racing. After the rain and cold of the previous three day we had excellent sailing conditions in a NE 3 to 4 with unbelievably some sunshine. Euan McNair did a great job as OD setting two good length back to back races. We were all quite tired when we finally made it back to the bar particular some of the foredeck hands like Rima who had a lot of spinnaker packing to do during the two races!  The coloured flags on the backstays were a great success and it was very easy to spot the different teams.

With 9 boats taking part
in three teams there were well over 50 actual competitors on the water ranging from Saskia with the smallest crew of just four to the largest crew of 10/12 ?(I lost count!) on Mojo! In addition we of course has yachts competing in the YCW IRC spring and PY series making it quite a spectacular day on the water.

After the first two races the overall standings as RDYC 19 points, WSC 25 points and CCSC with 44 points. It's still all to play for with two races to go including the Cherbourg race which of course counts for double points.

A great start to an innovative new series.
