New Dinghy and Falcon Race Courses
Following feedback from the YOBS and the dinghy fleet, we are aiming to provide the dinghies smaller and more suitable courses than they have been getting using movable marks when necessary.  Two course configurations have been defined and three new movable marks have been bought.  The new marks are about the same size as the one used for lambda but are yellow, to prevent confusion.
Race officers are being asked to set the new courses for dinghies, using the fixed marks if possible or by getting the Safety Boat to lay the movable marks.  A set of Race Officer Notes are provided in the Course Selection folder in the clubhouse and on Viking.  A5 laminated course cards suitable for keeping on board are available behind the bar for the dinghies.
There is potentially a wide range of speeds in the dinghy fleet so we will run these races as Average Lap Races so once the leading boat has finished, other boats will be finished when they complete their current lap.  The race officer will record times and the number of laps completed.  Race Officers will just have to be aware that a complete lap of Course 1 is a triangle and a sausage.
This is a bit of an experiment which hopefully will prove popular and encourage more dinghies to join in the racing.  Give it a go and let me know how it went.  It will be a bit more work for the Race Officer and for the Safety Boat crew but if it gets more dinghies out there, it will be well worth it.
